One more June Baby...

Congratulations to my buddies, Nathan and Amanda, for the birth of their first child, Micah Sanford Warden!

Their delivery arrived early too. June is way more cool than July anyhow. Good luck guys, and hope to see your new one soon.

Sunday

Angel and I went to the Sunday service at the center today. I was quite happy that I didn't have any responsibilities during the service. I did officially announce the birth of Truth and inform everyone that they would be able to meet her and Hephzibah next Sunday.

Next are photos of me making baby cry, Hephzibah feeling better, visitors and baby doing this and that.

Truth

Today, Hephzibah was sitting up and eating a bit after having two days of no food or water due to the operation. Baby did a good mix of sleeping, playing and using up diapers. Guess who changed all of them today. Yeah, me. Ha!

Below is baby just after a change of dress. She actually doesn't stick out her tongue so much, just caught it at the right time i guess.

Next is Hephzibah mommy finally able to sit up and hold baby properly after two days of bed.

Grandpa Aaron and Grandma Esther holding baby. They arrived from Karnataka on Wednesday to see what's happening in Goa.

And the last photo is baby after another long day with so many new experiences for all. This cow toy is awesome. Her hands are so tiny that we couldn't find any toys that she would actually be able to hold. But, Mr. Cow, she can wrap her arm around pretty comfortably and he stays put.

There are other matters to discuss. Names. Living in India and not being allowed to know the sex of the child before delivery lead to choosing a name that would work for both possible outcomes.

"For the Law was given through Moses;
grace and truth came through Jesus Christ."
- John 1:17

"Since you are my rock and my fortress,
for the sake of your name lead and guide me.
Free me from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge.
Into your hands I commit my spirit;
redeem me, O Lord, the God of truth."
- Psalm 31:3-5

"Truth"

Next, we needed a middle name. In Exodus, Moses names his child Gershom, (2:22) and states, "I have become an alien in a foreign land." I like that. Not for the obvious reason that I am truly living in a foreign land, but for a more serious reason...

"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world,
but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is
- his good, pleasing and perfect will."
- Romans 12:2

"Their destiny is destruction, their god
is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame.
Their mind is on earthly things.
But our citizenship is in heaven.
And we eagerly await a Savior from there,
the Lord Jesus Christ, who,
by the power that enables him to
bring everything under his control,
will transform our lowly bodies
so that they will be like his glorious body."
- Philippians 3:19-21

Our eyes are not to be focused on the temporary things of this earth. We need not get too attached. "Our citizenship is in heaven!" We are to live like "an alien in a foreign land." We should continually remind ourselves to be focused on the permanent things present only in the plans of God.

"Gershom"

These are two things that have been taught to Hephzibah and myself from an early age. These are things that we will pass down to our beautiful daughter, Truth Gershom Deyhle.

Pinkie Pooh

Baby and Mommy are doing good. Today was quite a bit more relaxing. Less rain. Less running around. Less going to the hospital at 2:30 in the morning. Baby looks different from yesterday. Less like a raisin. Still pulling at her cheek all the time. I got to change a fun diaper. Today was also our first wedding anniversary. Not exactly as planned. We will have to reschedule it for after we all get back home. Some photos from today...

First Day

Yes. The newest Deyhle was born 10:30 am (India Time) on the 25th of June, 2008. Female. 2.2 Kg. Delivered by cesarean section. Everyone is doing very well. Everyone is very tired. Baby spent most of the new day either sleeping or pulling at her right cheek with her fingers. Hephzibah spent the day laying down and resting. I drove all over the place trying to catch up with the surprise. Angel, Hephzibah's sister, was a great help. Hephzibah's parents spent the day in a bus driving from Karnataka to Goa to see their first grandchild. Doctors and nurses were great.

And a name? We have been pretty committed to one name for a while now. It was our choice for a boy or a girl. The fun thing about India is that you are not required to hand out a name for a really long time. So we are going to hold out on it for today. I was ready but Hephzibah said she wasn't feeling well enough to make the commitment today. So, we all get to experience a bit of Indian culture on this one, for now.

Early

It is 5:00am 25th of June, India Time. Hephzibah was showing signs of being ready to go to the hospital. We went there at 3:00am. The doctor says she and the baby are doing just fine but that she is still at the early steps of it. They put her on a glucose IV and gave her and Angel, her sister, a room. I had the option to stay there too, but we thought it best if I run home and return after 7am when the Doctor would be coming back to check in on her. Being a bit early, we forgot some things like toothbrushes, etc. Again, she is only at the beginning stage of the delivery process. Her due date was July 21st so this is one month early. The doctor said everything looks good and there are no problems. The baby only wanted to speed things up a bit. More info after the delivery.

And It Rained All Night And It Rained All Day...

Cloudy Benaulim Beach. Cold Arabian Sea. People playing in the water anyways.

Hephzibah's sister, Angel is going to be staying with us until the pregnancy. In India, it is common for the new mother to go back to her home village for the first delivery. We are trying things a little different and staying in Goa for the delivery. We thought, in Angel coming, it would bring a little of home to us.

To The Future

We've been putting a little money aside each month to put towards the future. Well, folks, the future is here! This is our new lasagna cooker that we picked up in town. It has a timer, some different heating options (above, below, above and below) and the woman at the shop said it can be used to cook things other than lasagna. So far, I have cooked lasagna twice.

I have some previous cooking experience but felt pretty limited with only having a gas stove to my disposal. A stove is great for rice, curry, Indian cooking. But a lasagna machine? Remain calm. This is also coming at a great time with Hephzibah getting all fat and having a hard time getting close to the kitchen counter. The light effects in the photo were added in but the flavor is all natural.

What? You Mean This Thing Doesn't Update On Its Own? Ok, Well, Let's Take A Look See...

We had our Wednesday night leaders prayer and dinner meeting tonight. Hephzibah's parents were visiting for a couple days so they joined us. Here we are in the back building of our center. Yes, that's the food up front.

And since everyone was so patient with my lack of posting, a fat tummy photo!
